(x) Waterloo 1815 (John Richards, 3rd Batt. Grenad. Guards.), replacement silver ring and straight bar suspension with matching straight bar for wear, scratch to the obverse and some edge bruising but otherwise very fine

John Richards served as a private in the Light Company of the 3rd Battalion, Foot Guards under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Lord Saltourn. Light companies were on the left of a battalion line and consisted of the best shots, often made up of shorter men trained as skirmishers. Their primary objective was that of defence: the 3rd Battalion's Light Company's goal was to hold the orchard adjacent to Hougoumont farm which was on the centre-right of Wellington's line. After the battle, the Foot Guards were awarded the title 'Grenadier Guards' by the Prince Regent and remains the only regiment to have their name derive from the famous battle.
