Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Syria (Robert Whitehart.), minor contact mark to obverse, good very fine

Robert Whitehart is a unique name on the roll for the Naval General Service Medal. His service records note that he enlisted on 20 July 1814 with the Portsmouth Division, working ashore as a bricklayer. His first service afloat was with Niger as an Able Seaman on 25 November 1815. After service with Leveret he was stationed with Ganges as an Able Seaman in 1838, it was with this ship that he saw action during the Syria Campaign.
Leaving her in 1842 he served with a number of different vessels, finally being discharged on 27 January 1846 with the rank of Ship's Corporal, sold together with copied research.
