The Royal Navy Auxiliary Sick Berth Reserve (R.N.A.S.B.R.) was founded in 1903 to supplement the Royal Navy's medical staff, especially during the First World War. Members were primarily recruited from the St John Ambulance Brigade and provided medical support aboard military ships, hospital ships and naval hospitals both at home and abroad. Members were known as Sick Berth Attendants or Stewards and would perform medical tasks such as nursing the sick, dressing wounds and assisting in theatre.

In the Second World War, the reserve participated in key operations such as Dunkirk. It was disbanded in 1949 when it was replaced by the Sick Berth Branch of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
