M.M. London Gazette 9 September 1942.
On the morning of 22 Nov 41, at Bir-er-Reghem-el-Garbi, a small convoy loaded with 25 Pr ammunition was sent forward from Brigade 'B' Echelon for urgent replenishment. On the way this party was surrounded by enemy AFVs and the Officer's and three leading vehicles blown up. Cpl. Riley with great presence of mind took over command of the rest of the convoy and signalled them to follow him. Unable to go forward owing to being in the direct line of fire of our own AFVs which were engaging the enemy column, he showed great coolness and presence of mind by breaking through and guiding his convoy back to Brigade 'B' Echelon.
Michael Riley had an enlistment number for the Dragoons and was serving with HQ Squadron of 7th Armoured Brigade, Royal Armoured Corps.
