Lampen); Coronation 1953; Egypt, Order of the Nile, 4th Class breast badge, silver-gilt, silver and enamel, the last four mounted as worn, very light enamel damage to each piece, otherwise very fine (6)

Graham Dudley Lampen was born in on 7 April 1899 and was educated at Merchant Taylors and Queen's College, Oxford. With the outbreak of the Great War, he originally enlisted with the Royal Horse and Field Artillery and was given the service number 249727. He was to see service in Salonika in 1917. Lampen was commissioned on 27 May 1918 and saw further service in the Caucusus with the Army of the Black Sea between 1918-19. He applied for his Great War medals in 1920, and these were sent to the Assistant District Commissioner, Kuttum, Darfur, Sudan. Lampen served with the Finance Department between 1922-23 before being appointed to the Sudan Political Service in 1923. He served on the Blue Nile 1923-24, Darfur 1924-32, Blue Nile 1933-34, Civil Secretary's Office 1935-36, Blue Nile 1936-37, Kordofan 1937-39. He was Deputy Governor of Kassala Province from 1939-1944 and was later Governor of Darfur Province 1944-49. Lampen retired in 1949 and returned to live in Surrey. He was then to become a member of the Sudan Terms of Service Commission between 1950-51 and was to serve as Deputy Sudan Agent in London between 1951-54 before becoming Governor General's Adviser in London between 1954-56 before finally serving with the Foreign Office (Middle East Section between 1956-57. He died on 21 May 1960.
Sold with cases of issue for the C.M.G., C.B.E. and the Order of the Nile, and a quantity of copied research to include details of the papers produced by him (Durham University Library).
