Sidney Henry Davies was born on 14 June 1912 and first attested with the Royal Tank Corps in 1919. On 24 April 1931 he transferred to the Shropshire Light Infantry with whom he served during the Second World War. Davies was discharged at the rank of Corporal on 12 August 1952.
