1939-1945 Star; France and Germany Star; War Medal 1939-45, in their card box of issue addressed to 'Mr V. Hoy, 198 Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, Lond E10' and further annotated 'JX403480', together with Admiralty slip confirming '3', good very fine (3)

Victor Henry Hoy was born at Forest Gate, London on 20 June 1924 and was a despatch clerk upon his joining the Royal Navy in November 1942. Passing as a Telegraphist on 10 April 1944, he was presented aboard Landing Craft Gun (Large)-1062 off the Normandy bridgehead on 31 July 1944. Mined & sunk near the H6 anchor point at 0630hrs that day, he was lucky to come away with his life, for a number of his comrades gave theirs. Evacuated aboard the Duke of Rothesay that same day, the wounds were tended at the Royal South Hampshire Hospital at Southampton. They were however severe enough that he was granted a Hurt Certificate on 21 December 1944 and discharged being physically unfit for Naval service on 27 October 1945. The wreck of his LCG was recently surveyed, whilst Hoy died at Leigh-on-Sea, Essex on 19 July 2022; sold together with his original Certificate of Service and Wireless History Sheet.
