Mary Elizabeth Hilda Gethin was born in Sligo, Ireland, on 14 September 1884 and served with Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service from May 1915, having previously been a Nurse at Sir Patrick Dunn's Hospital in Dublin from April 1911.
Posted to the Egyptian theatre from May 1915, she was initially posted to several Hospital ships including Dunvegan Castle and Neuralia for service in the Mediterranean and appears to have remained in that area for the entirety of the Great War. Upon her demobilisation in 1919, her Confidential Report noted she had: ...'a most efficient, capable & devoted manner...is tactful, punctual & loyal; and has a very good influence generally.' Mary died, unmarried, on 12 December 1968.
