The General Service Medal awarded to Driver S. E. Thompson, Royal Army Service Corps, who was wounded in North West Europe whilst serving with the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry and who had also briefly served with the East Surrey Regiment
General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, S. E. Asia 1945-46 (T/14710083 Dvr. S. E. Thompson. R.A.S.C.), very fine
Stanley Edward Thompson originally served with the General Service List before transferring to the East Surrey Regiment on 16 March 1944. He transferred to the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry on 5 September 1944 and served with the 5th Battalion where he was wounded in action (exact date not confirmed on the official record). Thompson was to recover from his injury and at some stage transferred again, this time to the Royal Army Service Corps. He served with 524 Company R.A.S.C. in Palestine NOT S.E.Asia, and the clasp here is an error. Thompson applied for his medal in the late 1950s and it was approved in March 1960 as 524 Coy were deemed to have served in the Ops area between 10 April 1946 - 6 August 1947.
