(x) The British War Medal awarded to Private T. McLean, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, who died of wounds in France on 21 March 1918, likely as a result of the German Spring Offensive

British War Medal 1914-20 (791 Pte. T. McLean. A.&S.H.), very fine

Thomas McLean was born in Glasgow circa 1893, the son of James and Jeanie McLean of Gladstone Terrace, Mary St. in Dunoon, Argyll. He served during the Great War as a Private with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, first under regimental number 791 and later under number 300050. McLean and his unit were embarked for France on 1 May 1915, and there they served for a number of years at the western front. It was there on 21 March 1918, the first day that Germany launched their deadly Spring Offensive, that McLean died of his wounds. He was 25 years old and was buried at the Ham British Cemetery at Muille-Villette in France. He is further entitled to a 1914-15 Star and a British Victory Medal; sold together with copied research.
