George Henry Collins was born circa 1872 at Great Marlow, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and attested for Paget's Horse, Imperial Yeomanry at Marlborough on 23 February 1901, aged 25, after having made his living as an engineer. He was posted as a Private to the 19th Battalion and the unit was quickly embarked for service in South Africa just weeks later on 12 March.
The Regiment returned home on 5 August 1902 and Collins was discharged days afterwards - just a little over a year and a half after his enlistment - on 11 August 1902 as a result of the termination of his limited period of engagement. He intended to return to High Wycombe following his discharge; sold together with copied research including medal rolls.
