Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg (74788 Sgt: L. Smith, R.H.A.), good very fine

Louis Smith was born Great Wakering, Southend, Essex in 1871 and attested at Colchester on 3 September 1889. He was posted to J Battery on 30 November 1889 and advanced Bombardier with them in April 1893. Joining the Army Reserve on 3 September 1896 he returned to the Colours as Sergeant on 9 October 1899 for service in the Anglo-Boer War. Smith was posted to South Africa on 24 October 1899 and remained there until 1 June 1900. Posted to the Depot on 2 June 1900 in Britain, he was later transferred to X Battery on 15 November 1900, he continued to serve until his final discharge on 5 May 1901.
