Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Cape Colony, South Africa 1902 (39424 Pte G. W. Scotton. 32nd Bn: Imp: Yeo:), light contact marks, otherwise very fine

George William Scotton was born at Redcar, Yorkshire on 15 January 1881 and was a Blast-Furnace man prior to enlisting into the Imperial Yeomanry at York on 8 January 1902. He served in South Africa between 28 May 1902 - 7 January 1903 and returned Home on 8 January 1903 and was discharged at Aldershot on 14 January 1903. Scotton moved to Canada and became a Gardener but with the outbreak of the Great War he re-enlisted at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan into the 28th Batallion, Canadian Infantry on 23 October 1914. He entered the war in France on 14 October 1915 and was able to serve until January 1917 when he got cold and consequently spent five days in hospital. Scotton returned to duty until December 1917 when he returned to England on leave, he consulted a physician who in turn sent him to the Military Hospital, Redcar from 17 December 1917 - 3 January 1918. T.B. was found in the lung and he was transferred to the Canadian Special Hospital, Lenham, Kent. Scotton was discharged from CSH Lenham to Canada on 18 January 1918 returning to Canada on Olympic. He was finally discharged from the army on 1 August 1918. Scotton however returned to England but died at Redcar on 31 December 1919.
