(x) Queen's Sudan 1896-98 (4068 Pte A. W. Meaton 1/Northd. Fus.), very fine

Arthur William Meaton was born in 1874 in Dalston, Middlesex. He enlisted in 1894 and served as a Private with the 1st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. After serving at home for two years, he spent the subsequent two years in Gibraltar until 16 January 1898. He then spent ten months in Egypt, where he was awarded the Queen's Sudan Medal, and the Khedive's Sudan Medal with Khartoum clasp. He then spent the following year in Crete before returning home. His last campaign abroad was between November 1899 and August 1902 in South Africa. He was further entitled to the Queen's South Africa Medal with slasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal and Modder River, as well as the King's South Africa Medal with clasps South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902. He returned Home after the war and was discharged on 31 December 1905.
