Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (1545. Cr. Sgt. J. A. Dorans, 2/Derby.R.), light contact marks from star, otherwise very fine
James Atchison Dorans was born at Dalkeith, Edinburgh and enlisted in the 95th Regiment of Foot at Gosport on 3 July 1872 and remained in the U.K. until 28 December 1881 when he served in Gibraltar until 6 August 1882. He then served in Egypt 7 August 1882 - 13 October 1883 and from there served in India from 14 October 1883 - 13 May 1890 and saw service on the Sikkim Expedition of 1888 and is entitled to the India General Service 1854-95 with clasp Sikkim 1888. He appeared before a Medical Board in India on 21 February 1890 with Bright's disease (kidney disease) and was recommended to be discharged from the service and returned on Malabar on 18 March 1890 and arrived at Netley on 14 April 1890 where he was admitted to hospital before being discharged on 13 May 1890.
