Stephen Tedder was born at Chobham, Surrey in July 1846, the son of Joseph and Hannah Tedder. Enlisting with the 9th (West Norfolk) Regiment on 20 August 1870 at Aldershot with the number 1907, notably his brother was also with the Regiment at that stage. Stationed at Shorncliffe, Kent, Tedder volunteered to the 67th (South Hampshire) Foot on 10 October 1872 and was sent to India with them in 1874.
They were stationed in Burma for some time before joining the campaign in Afghanistan in 1878. They went into action at Charasia in 1879 before advancing on and retaking Kabul, there they were part of the siege at Sherpur Cantonment and the breaking of that siege through the winter. Tedder appears on the role for H Company with the rank of Lance Corporal.
He was still in service when the Battalion was amalgamated into the newly formed Hampshire Regiment in 1881 and advanced Sergeant with them in 1882. Finally advanced Colour Sergeant on 5 May 1884, Tedder died at Chobham on 3 October 1886, as a result of dysentery; sold together with copied research.
