Canada General Service 1866-70, 1 clasp, Fenian Raid 1866 (680. Pte. J. Coleman. 2/17th Rgt.), nearly extremely fine

John Coleman was born at St. Andrew's, Devon in 1843, the son of John Coleman a Bosun's Mate in the Royal Navy. He attested on 24 November 1858 at the age of 15 and saw service of 1 year and 3 months in North America. This included service during the first Fenian Raid in 1886, after in 1869 this he re-attested with the Regiment with a new service number 1547.

Coleman was to see further service abroad in Afghanistan for 9 months, Jamaica for 2 months and India ten years and five months. Discharged on 14 June 1881 his conduct was described as 'laterly [sic] good'. He listed his intended place of residence as Plymouth where he married Mary Wasley in 1884, living at 72 High Street, East Stonehouse, Devon; sold together with copied research.
