South Africa 1834-53 (Messenger Commt J. Mansfield.), fitted with original riband and a brooch bar for wear (pin now absent), some light edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise very fine

Just two medals on the Roll appear to be named to Messengers.

John Mansfield was born in Ireland in 1838 and was therefore only fifteen at the time of the South Africa campaign. He became a farmer and died in 1898.
