Citation states:

'VENUTI Gaetano son of Domenico and Giuseppina Avellone, born in Montelepre (Palermo) on November 30, 1906, Lieutenant complement of the XII Colonial Battalion.

Commander of an advanced Company, he led his men to attack positions strongly garrisoned by rebels, with enthusiasm and boldness, giving proof of uncommon value and expertise.

Wounded, he continued to give orders, refusing any help, until, exhausted, he fell unconscious. A wonderful example of devotion to duty and of elite military action.'
