(x) A Canadian Shooting Prize Medal for the Dominion Prize awarded to F. G. Marchand, who was later to be the 11th Premier of Quebec

Maltese Cross with 'D R A Canada' in respective limbs, the centre with a Queen's crown set within a wreath, the suspension with crossed percussion cap rifles and straight bar for a riband above, the reverse (Dominion Prize Lt Colonel F. G. Marchand 21st Battalion V.M 1868) engraved, small repair to suspension, otherwise very fine

Felix-Gabriel Marchand was born in Quebec, Canada in 1832. Following his education, he became a journalist and writer as well as a notary. In 1867 he entered politics and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec for the district of Saint-Jean and retained his seat until his death. From 1892 until 1897 he became Leader of the Opposition and replaced Edmund James Flynn as Quebec's Premier when the Conservative Party lost the May 1897 election, becoming the 11th Premier. During his tenure, he tried to establish a Ministry of Education post in his government but the proposal was defeated in the Quebec Legislative Council. He died in office at Quebec City, Quebec, Canada at the age of 68 and was succeeded by Simon-Napoleon.
