Royal Air Force L.S. & G.C., (2) G.VI.R. (411139. Sgt. J. Farrell. R.A.F., W/O. E. G. Harbert. R.A.F.), the first with some contact marks, otherwise very fine

Joseph Farrell was born on 16 March 1908 and was previously a bricklayer before he enlisted into the East Yorkshire Regiment on 30 September 1938 (4340692) and saw service in Palestine with the 2nd East Yorkshire Regiment. He returned Home on 28 September 1938 and with the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 remained at Home until 21 December 1942 when he saw service in the Middle East. During this time Farrell was compulsorily transferred to the Royal Air Force on 29 July 1943.

He is further entitled to a General Service 1918-62 with clasp Palestine.

Eric George Harbert was born at Croydon, Surrey, on 22 December 1904 and originally served with the Royal Navy between 3 March 1920 - 23 March 1927 when he was invalided out. He enlisted into the Royal Air Force on 31 May 1927 (506052). He was based at Cranwell in 1937 and was involved in a car accident and as a result suffered a compound fracture to his left arm. Harbert was promoted to Warrant Officer on 1 November 1940. He died in April 1976.
