Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R. (Jas Cundey. Comd.. Boatn.. H.M. Coast Guard), named on an erased and re-used medal

James Cundey was born as St.Mawes, Cornwall, on 13 March 1837, and joined Brunswick on 11 September 1856 as a Stoker, he then served aboard Nile from 13 April 1860 - 23 April 1864 before serving on St. George from 24 April 1864 - 22 August 1864. Cundey then served aboard Cambridge from 23 August 1864 - 28 January 1866 then to Topaze 29 January 1866 - 1 September 1869 before returning to Cambridge 2 September 1869 - 21 June 1870. Cundey joined the Coast Guard on 22 June 1870 reaching the rank of Chief Boatman and completed his service on 7 March 1879.
