Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (2240 C.Sjt: J. Spencer. Notts: & Derby: Regt), light contact marks, very fine
John Spencer was born at Carrington, Nottingham, he originally served with the 4th Lincolnshire Regiment before joining the Derbyshire Regiment on 16 January 1888. He saw service in South Africa between 10 January 1900 - 8 May 1901 and returned Home on 9 May 1901. He was awarded his L.S. & G.C. in Army Orders 67 of April 1907 and remained at Home completing his service on 9 January 1910. Spencer died on 30 April 1953. He is further entitled to a Queen's South Africa 1899- 1902 medal with clasps Transvaal, Orange Free State and Cape Colony.
Sold together with a copy photograph of him in later life wearing three medals, the middle one appears to be a Defence Medal but not confirmed.
