William Stanley Dixon was born at Sutton, Surrey, 15 April 1890. He attested into the Canadian Engineers on 12 November 1915 at North Vancouver and entered the War in France on 29 May 1916. He was promoted to Second Corporal on 24 May 1918 and to Corporal on 1 October 1918. Dixon embarked aboard the S.S. Cassandra on 2 May 1919 to return to Canada and was discharged at Vancouver on 15 May 1919. He intended to live at Hope Bay, Pendle Island in British Columbia.
