A Great War M.M. awarded to Gunner M. Samuels, Royal Garrison Artillery, who suffered from both shrapnel wounds and the effects of gas and was thus discharged on 24 June 1916

Maurice Samuelswas born at Chatham, Kent and was a motorman prior to joining the Royal Artillery at Chiswick on 5 September 1914. He first entered the war in France on 13 February 1915. Samuels was admitted to the Australian Hospital at Wimereux on 31 December 1915 as a result of shrapnel wounds to the shoulder and face as well as suffering the effects of gas, he returned home on the 3 January 1916. He was discharged as a result of no longer being physically fit for service on 24 June 1916, and is entitled to a 1914-15 Star trio as well as a Silver War Badge (1299).
