Richard Tremaine was born at Ladock, Cornwall in May 1860. Commissioned in the Royal Artillery on 27 July 1880 Tremaine was employed in the Remounts service during the Boer War having initially served as Staff Captain appointed to command the 3rd Provisional Regiment of Dragoons. He was elevated to Major in 1902 for his Boer War service. During the Great War he served as officer in charge of records at Dover and promoted to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel in 1917. Resigning from the army in 1921, he died at Folkestone, Kent on 10 July 1929. The British War Medal is his only entitlement for his Great War service.
