George Hoad was transferred from the Sussex Regiment to The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment in April 1931. He went overseas with the 2/6th Battalion and was lucky to come away from Dunkirk, as he was erroneously listed as having been taken a Prisoner of War. His campaign medals were issued to him at The Bury Farm, Thurleigh, Bedfordshire in January 1949.
