Three: Sergeant H. A. Tune, No. 110 Squadron, Royal Air Force, who was Killed in Action when his aircraft crashed returning from a raid over Emden Harbour

1939-45 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; War Medal 1939-45 (581552 Sgt. H. A. Tune. R.A.F.), contemporarily engraved naming, sold together with a medal slip of issue named to 'Sergeant H. A. Tune' and a named box of issue, good very fine (3)

Harold Arthur Tune was born at Bath, Somerset in June 1919, the son of Arthur and Edith Elizabeth Tune. Attesting with No. 110 Squadron he joined them flying Blenheims out of Wattisham, Suffolk as an Observer. His first mission with them was over the River Lek on 3 July 1940 seeing seven missions throughout the month. They next month proved even more intense with a total of eight missions carried out, the Squadron Summary of Events notes what followed on 30 August 1940, stating:

'Crews of two sections were briefed at 1600 hours and were standing-by at 2130 hours to operate against shipping in Emden harbour. Six aircraft took off between 2135 hours and 2230 hours 30/8/40. (For details of crews see appending 432). Four aircraft bombed primary target, Two aircraft could not locate target but one aircraft bombed unidentified aerodrome, one aircraft abandoned task. R. 3773, assumed to have bombed target, on return crash at Offton near Wattisham. The pilot, P/O Price and the Observer, Sgt. Tune were killed, and Sgt. McDonald W/Op. Air gunner was seriously injured.'

Tune is buried at Dunkerton (All Saints) Churchyard; sold together with copied research and original material comprising, the recipient's Death Certificate, a box of issue addressed to 'Mrs E. E. Moore Ellsmore, Writhlinton, Nr. Bath Somerset.' and a medal slip of issue.
