William Valentine Parker enlisted into The Queen's Regiment in September 1928 and transferred to the West Yorkshire Regiment in September 1936. Having served in Palestine with his unit, he was posted to the 56th Recce Corps in March 1941. From 1 January 1944 onwards it was part of the Royal Armoured Corps and was known as the 56th (London) Reconnaissance Regiment. The unit was attached to 78th (Battleaxe) Division between 1 September 1942-31 August 1945. A scout car of the unit was photographed diverting a minefield at Randazzo, Sicily, in August 1943 (NAM. 1999-03-88-43); sold together with his copied RAC Tracer Card.
