Arthur Richard French was born on 12 December 1894 and enlisted with the Royal Air Force on 9 May 1918, being posted to 141 Squadron just a few days later. The next month he joined 151 fighter Squadron and remained with them for the rest of hostilities during which the unit made a total of 26 confirmed kills. French was demobilised on 22 May 1919.
At some stage he joined the Royal Signals as a reservist and remained with them for some time. Notably French did serve during the Second World War with his medal card noting entitlement to the 1939-45 Star and War Medal 1939-45, sent to 107 Alderson Road, Birmingham.
