William Brown was born at Barnsley and enlisted at Manningham, Bradford. Entering the war in France on 21 May 1915 with the Yorkshire Light Infantry, he served as 48221 with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade. Brown was killed in action on 28 May 1918, the second day of the Third Battle of the Aisne, he is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial.

Slip for the Memorial Scroll from Rifle Brigade records.
