(x) The unusual campaign pair awarded to Leading Steward S. B. Pereira, Royal Navy, a Goan who saw further service during the Great War

Naval General Service 1915-62, 1 clasp, Persian Gulf 1909-1914 (L.3135. S. B. Pereira, Off. Std. 2 Cl. H.M.S. Philomel.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (L.3135 S. B. Pereira. L. Std. H.M.S. Colombo.), edge bruise, very fine (2)

Simian Baptista Pereira was born at Goa, India on 11 November 1885 and enlisted at Colombo, Sri Lanka on 18 September 1911. His attestation notes him as a 'man of colour', suggesting he was of Indian descent rather than Portuguese. Joining Philomel he served with her while she was patrolling the Persian Gulf hunting slavers and gun runners supporting the Mullah's forces in Somaliland.

Going ashore to Dartmouth in 1913 he was posted to India in July 1914, seeing most of the war out at the Royal Naval Depot in Bombay. Posted to the gunboat Moth on 19 March 1918 he served with her while she was serving in Mesopotamia but he left before her posting to the White Sea in 1920. Returning to Bombay he served there and at Colombo, Sri Lanka for the rest of his service.

Pereira re-enlisted on 27 July 1935 with the service number G./L.X.21866, his papers note 'N. Service 1939-45' although whether this means no service or Naval service is unclear; sold together with copied service papers.
