Benjamin Anderson was born at Shieldfield, Newcastle in 1868, attesting with the King's Own Scottish Borderers on 2 February 1887. He was posted with this unit to Egypt, arriving on 19 July 1888 and saw action at the Battle of Suakin, also called Gemaizah, on 20 December. The Battle was a total victory for the British, with losses of just 12 for around 1,000 Dervishes killed.
Leaving Egypt on 1 January 1890 Anderson joined the Regiment in India where they remained until December 1894. Returning to Britian he joined the Army Reserve on 1 January 1895 and was finally discharged on 1 February 1899; sold together with copied research.
