John Peter Drabble joined the Royal Navy as a Cadet in 1959 and first joined Chichester. Having passed into the 'Silent Service', he served aboard the Anchorite in the waters off the Malay Peninsula (Medal & clasp). Having further served in Porpoise, he passed the famous Submarine Command Course (Commanding Officers Qualifying Course) No. 70 - famously known as 'The Perisher' - and was appointed as CO of Cachalot in 1970.
