Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Nyasaland 1915 (J. D. MacKenzie. Nyasaland Vol: Res:), light contact wear, very fine and scarce

One of 225 Nyasaland 1915 clasps awarded to the Nyasaland Volunteer Reserve.

J. D. MacKenzie is listed as serving on Garrison duty at Balantre during the Chilembwe Uprising. Blantyre was being used by the African Lakes Corporation to store weapons when the uprising began. As such it was attacked on 24 January 1915 at the same time as the Bruce Plantation by a force of 100 rebels. The settlers were alerted when a local watchman was shot dead and managed to repulse the attackers.
