John William Reeday was born in Shipley, Yorkshire and attested for general service at York on 27 July 1881 as a 19-year-old farm labourer. He served in Egypt from 25 August 1884 until returning home on 3 November 1885. Reeday participated in the Nile Expedition 1884-5 while serving in Egypt, for which he earned a clasp for his Egypt and Sudan medal. However, his service records do not mention an entitlement to a second clasp. Reeday is further entitled to a Khedive's Star; sold together with copied service record.
