(x) Afghanistan 1878-80, 1 clasp, Ahmed Khel (Captain. Geo: Hewitt. Trotman, 2/60th Foot), slight edge bruise, very fine

George Hewitt Trotman was born in Barbados in 1838, the son of Irish parents, Joseph and Susannah Trotman. Commissioned on 12 May 1857 he was advanced Lieutenant on 13 August 1859 and Captain on 11 January 1869. The Battalion Records of Service note that he was commanding 'E' Company in November 1878.

Trotman was part of the initial occupation of Kandahar and Kalat-i-Ghilzai, seeing action at Ahmed Khel, the surrender of Ghazni and the Action at Arzu. He was advanced Major on 5 June 1880 and Lieutenant-Colonel on 5 October 1887, the same day he retired. Despite this he appeared in the 1912 Army List as an Honorary Colonel.

The rest of Trotman's family appear to have remained in Barbados while he was soldering however he did not settle there, instead returning to Ireland. He died there at Bantry, Cork on 11 April 1916; sold together with copied research.
