Indian Mutiny 1857-58, 2 clasps, Defence of Lucknow, Lucknow (G. Green, 90th. Lt. Infy.), sold together with an unnamed Crimea medal with Sebastopol Clasp and Turkish Crimea medal to complete the recipient's entitlement, suspension claw tightened, scratch to obverse field and minor edge bruising, very fine
George Green served with the 90th (Perthshire Volunteers) Light Infantry in the Crimea, where he was severely wounded during the bombardment of Sebastopol on 16 July 1855 along with four other men of the 90th. He was further awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (medal ordered 23 June 1856), along with a £5 gratuity for the award, 17 men of the 90th Foot were awarded the D.C.M. before the Great War.
Embarking for service in China in April 1857, en-route, however, the regiment was diverted to India and took part in the operations against Lucknow as part of Havelock's First Relief Force, and at the capture of Lucknow on 21 March 1858. Notably during the relief two Surgeons of the Regiment, Home and Bradshaw were awarded the Victoria Cross for their bravery; sold together with copied research and a modern copy of the recipient's Victorian D.C.M.
