Indian Mutiny 1857-58, 1 clasp, Central India (Artr. Price, 3rd Bombay Eurpn. Regt.), contact marks, edge wear, very fine

One of 689 Central India Clasps awarded to the Regiment.

The 3rd Bombay European Regiment was extremely heavily engaged with Sir Hugh Rose's Central India Field Force. They saw action at Rahatgarh, Garhakota and Jhansi where they were central to the British success at Betwa with two of the fifteen British deaths being men of the 3rd. After Jhansi fell some men of the Regiment were left there as garrison while the rest joined the army at Lohari where Private Frederick Whirlpool won the Victoria Cross. There final action was the capture of Kalpi where the Regiment Garrisoned the town, allowing General Rose to march on and retake Gwalior.
