Baltic 1854-55 (Lieut. W. H. Annesley H.M.S. Harrier), contemporarily engraved naming, suspension slack, contact marks, very fine

William Henry Annesley was born in Ireland on 4 October 1830, the son of Francis and Mary Annesley and grandson of the Second Earl of Annesley, he was also a direct descendant of Edward III. Attending the Royal Naval School Annesley joined the crew of Harrier in the Baltic with the rank of Lieutenant. His service papers note:

'17 July 1855, gazetted with strong praise for his exertions at the destruction of shipping at Nystad'.

This being that attack on the Russian ships at Nystad by the boats of Harrier and Cuckoo. Annesley remained in service, being promoted Commander in 1863. He died at Monkstown, Dublin on 27 March 1875.
