1924 Autograph letter written in French and signed by Marshal Hubert Lyautey (1854-1934), Governor, on headed notepaper "Resident General au Moroc". Lyautey writes to a military acquaintance referring to a tense situation and his distrust of the rebel leader Abd el-Karim, who had, by the end of 1924, conquered Chefchaouen and forced the Spanish Army to withdraw. In April 1925 he launched a surprise attack on French forces at Ouraga, with reinforcements called up urgently.
Lyautey, based at Rabat, administered French Morocco for 18 years, contributing to the progress of the protectorate.
