Sir Charles Napier (1782-1853)
1844 Autograph letter written from Karachi by Napier, as Governor of Sindh, addressed to Lt. Col Poole of the 22nd Regiment, Poonah, postally used, with Napier's signature on the address panel. Postmarked "Karatchee/Free", readdressed within Poonah to the British Hotel.
Napier refers to honours awarded to soldiers of the Regiment. "Here I am as strong as a horse after being all but in the coffin last June", a reference to war with the Ameer rebels led by Sher Mohamed, during which 43 of his men died of sunstroke. "Tell me what people think about the Sikhs, will they attack us or not? I do not think they will this year".
