NGC Choice AU | Byzantium, Constantine VII, with Romanus II Augustus (945-959), AV Solidus, struck from April 945, Constantinople, +IhS XPS REX REGNANTIUM, bust of Christ facing, wearing nimbus cruciger with three pellets in each arm of cross, raising right hand in blessing and holding gospel in left, rev. CONSTANT CE ROMAN AUGG BR, facing busts of Constantine on left, with short beard, and Romanus on right, beardless, holding long patriarchal cross between them, 4.34g, 6h (D.O. 15; Ratto 1905; Sear 1751), test cut on reverse edge at 11 o'clock, otherwise a really bold very fine, in NGC 'Ancients' holder, generously graded Choice Almost Uncirculated ~ Scuffs (Cert. #8534356-004) [Strike: 4/5, Surface: 2/5]
