INGENIO ET ARTI, The Genius of Light (after Bertel Thorvaldsen), 54.54g, 37.5mm, edge engraved 'Erika Wedekind', light contact marks from wearing, otherwise extremely fine, fitted with plain gold ring suspension, and with ladies' bow ribband, as issued, extremely rare, only nine such awards bestowed by King Frederick VIII, with only two for singing; also, Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, Grossherzog Carl Alexander (1853-1901), AV 'Verdienstmedaille', [undated], by Ferdinand Helfricht, Presented to Erika Wedekind, bare head left, rev. The "Hurter-Amman" Collection of Ancient and World Gold and Silver Coins and Medals
The Danish medal 'Ingenio et Arti' was established by Christian VIII in 1841. It is a personal award from the monarch, and can be awarded to Danish and international writers, musicians, artists, and scientists.
It was awarded 21 April 1907 to Erika Wedekind, "Kammersängerin" for Royal Saxony, one on only nine such awards bestowed by King Frederick VIII, two of them for singing.
