1897 (28 April) envelope (reduced at right) from the "consulate of the united states of america, foochow, china" addressed to Longview, Texas, marked "Per First Steamer", bearing Dowager small figures 4c. on 4cds. cancelled by "customs" date stamp and showing rare "united states consulate fuchau china" c.d.s., in Shanghai additionally franked with US 5c. pair (left stamp faulty) cancelled by "u.s. postal agencies shanghai" (7.5) duplex, the reverse with "customs shanghai" (29.4), San Francisco (31.5) and faint arrival d.s.; envelope with some peripheral faults and ageing, a couple of Chinese stamps possibly lost in transit, still quite rare and a collectable cover showing this rare postmark.
