1843 entire letter written from Caroline Thomson at Simonstown to Mrs Maclear at the Royal Observatory, "3" in red manuscript with General Post Office / Cape of Good Hope postmark, unusually folded in a triangular shape. This item is described by Commander F.W. Collins in an article ex the London Philatelist where it is suggested that this may have been the inspiration for the design of the Cape triangular. Photo
