Lake Lefroy Goldfield Cycle Mail
1897 (Apr.) 6d. pink on greenish paper, unused with large part original gum (sweated), good colour, light corner crease, black spot on face and some blue marks at lower right, nevertheless a presentable example of this rare stamp; also two page 1896 (14 Feb.) letter from the Palace Hotel written by Frank Maskell (addressee's name and address excised) in which he writes about the service - "The Lake Lefroy Cycle Service after a career of about 4 months from Feb. to June 1897, has ceased to ??? since the latter date; there is now a Govt subsidised mail-coach running bi-weekly to Red Hill the new township & centre of the district. In February last year there was a big alluvial "rush" to the place & and in company with Mr. H.L. Hillier, I started the cycle service between the rush & Coolgardie 45 miles distant, we made a charge of 6d. per letter each way for posting and collecting them at the Coolgardie Post Restante and in April we had these stamps printed.".
