AK, close to large margins all round, well tied by red Maltese Cross to entire autograph letter signed by Wellington and addressed, in Wellington's hand, to James Melville in London, reading "My dear Sir, I have received your letter of the - and have applied to the Secretary of State, that his Lordship was to take her Majesty's Pleasure hereby permitting reverend H Melville Chaplain of the Tower to remain as the Lieutent. till the 15 April next 1841". Signed "Ever my Dear Sir, your much obedient honourable friend Wellington". The reverse with [Wey]?bridge d.s. and 31.12 receiving d.s. A wonderful and rare cover from this famous figure in history.
