Great Britain
Postal History
1821 (21 Nov.), entire letter from London to Exeter with slightly watery red double ring "free" datestamp (S.G. 1A/11); fine. With interesting contents including "...I have enquired at Roberts & Co and find they do not send a parcel to Milford & Co only once a quarter and I waited on Mr. Roberts to ask the favour of a frank but he would not give one". A rare and important reference to the Free Franking privilege.
