1859-1866, Exceptional Collection of Classic Issues. A remarkable collection of Colombia's classic issues, housed in two albums and comprising several thousand stamps in both unused and used condition. Featuring significant duplication across most values, this collection presents an extensive array of shades, plate varieties, postmarks (including rare examples throughout), and multiples. Notably, it includes a substantial selection of scarce and undervalued stamps in mint condition, such as multiple examples of the 1859 1p. rose on bluish (with only about ten recorded, according to the "Esmeralda" collection auction catalogue), numerous scarce 1860 5c. on laid paper (Scott 9) in both unused and used states, and several mint examples of the 1860 20c. blue. The 1861 issue of the United States of New Granada is exceptionally well-represented, with an impressive range of all denominations in both unused and used condition (an extraordinary and rarely available assembly). The elusive 1862 issue includes multiple examples of the 20c red and the 1p. red on bluish (Scott 23), along with later bisects and a substantial selection of the sought-after 1866 5p. and 10p .high values. This is the most extensive collection of classic Colombian issues we recall offering, making it an invaluable resource for plating studies. Condition varies as expected, ranging from slightly mixed to very fine. A truly exceptional holding of these fascinating and exotic issues, ideal as a premier stock for a dealer or a foundation for an advanced collector's research. Huge catalogue value. Viewing is highly recommended.
